Budget Wine of the Week: Hogue Late Harvest Riesling

Sweet to Dry Scale: 5*

Yes, I know. Riesling again. I was determined to find one that wasn’t so sweet, and I think I’ve finally found it! This wine is absolutely fantastic, and is now my favorite Riesling! It’s the perfect sweetness with no sour bite. There is no hint of dryness, but it’s not overwhelmingly sweet either. We drank it with friends and all four of us were extremely impressed with how good this wine is. And to give you an idea, two of the people who liked it are dry red wine drinkers, so you don’t have to love sweet wines to like this one. If you’re looking for an awesome sipping wine that won’t overwhelm what you pair it with, this is an excellent choice!

Bang for your buck: Excellent. I highly recommend!

*The Sweet to Dry Scale tells you just how dry the wine is, based on a number that my husband and I agree on. The higher the number, the dryer the wine. (0=sweet, 10=dry) My husband likes wines that are a 9 or 10. I like wines that are a 5 or 6.

As a lover of all things wine, she and her husband have gone to great lengths to drink the good stuff without going broke (well, more broke.) She likes wines that are not too dry but not too sweet. She spends her time blogging, saving the cat from being mauled by her sweet children, and ignoring her messy house. Wine helps with that…

I’ll have to give this one a try. Riesling is my favorite wine. The one I buy most often is Funf by Schmitt Sohne. It is very tasty and is usually aroun $6 a bottle. I also love the regular Schmitt Sohne Riesling
