Budget Wine of the Week: Black Box Cabernet Sauvignon
Saturday
Jun 5, 2010
Price: Around $20 (Contains 4 bottles’ worth, so $5 per bottle!)
Sweet to Dry Scale: 6-7*
I know. Another box wine. But this is a budget wine column, so I have to tell you about all the options! Black Box is one of the top rated box wine brands, and my husband and I have yet to meet one we didn’t like. The Cabernet is no different. It’s a little bit dryer than the Merlot, but I like it. It’s not very sweet, so if you like your wine sweet, this probably isn’t for you. But you could grab a bar of chocolate to pair with it and that would solve that problem! And if you’re a dry wine drinker, you’re all set. It’s not the highest end wine you’ll ever buy, but it’s a great table wine.
Box wines have a bad reputation, but this brand is definitely worth buying. It lasts a very long time, and if you like to use wine to cook with, this will definitely come in handy!
Bang for your Buck: Great! Keep it on hand for a nice wind down drink in the evening =)
*The Sweet to Dry Scale tells you just how dry the wine is, based on a number that my husband and I agree on. The higher the number, the dryer the wine. (0=sweet, 10=dry) My husband likes wines that are a 9 or 10. I like wines that are a 5 or 6.

The whole line of Black Box wines are pretty good. Some better than others. The Cab and the Pino are our favorite. Another box wine that is excellent is Boto Box.

I love the Black Box Pinot Grigio. The Chardonnay is good, too, if you like Chards.
If you want something really cheap yet drinkable, the Turning Leaf Cab Sauv box is decent. It’s about $5 or so cheaper than the Black Box wines.
I tried the Bota Box wines and did NOT like them.
In any case, I’ve gone back to bottles because I found that I tend to drink more when I can’t see the box draining.

Tracy – These boxes are never more than $20 where I am, which breaks down to roughly $5 per bottle of wine (each box is the equivalent of 4 bottles.) However, even at $27, that’s still only about $6.75 per bottle, so it’s a good deal either way.

Houses and cars are not cheap and not everybody can buy it. However, loans are created to support people in such hard situations.
