Recipe: Classic Spanish Sangria
Saturday
May 15, 2010
One of our favorites for summer…
Ingredients:
1 lemon
1 lime
1 orange
1 1/2 cups rum
1/2 cup white sugar
1 (750 milliliter) bottle dry red wine
1 cup orange juice
Directions
Have the fruit, rum, wine, and orange juice well chilled. Slice the lemon, lime and orange into thin rounds and place in a large glass pitcher. Pour in the rum and sugar. Chill in refrigerator for 2 hours to develop the flavors. When ready to serve, crush the fruit lightly with a wooden spoon and stir in the wine and orange juice. Adjust sweetness to taste.

My recipe is very similar except that I use about 8 oz. of Triple Sec instead of rum and specifically use Carlo Rossi Burgundy…everyone LOVES it! I will try with the rum, too! Mmmmmm…

Adding an apple to this recipe also adds some good flavor.

My recipe is also very similar, but use “some” Triple Sec AND the rum. Also, “some” tonic water and a cup of citrus juice (like it better than just orange juice by itself). Love bite-size apples and 1/4 orange slices in it.
Also, just tried this same recipe with Yellow Tail Pinot Grigio this weekend, because my sister-in-law can’t drink red wine. It was great!

I like using lemonade instead of orange juice & also adding a 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon too it, adds an awesome little addition !..Enjoy mum’s…we deserve it!!
